Some other fully synthetic oil like 5W-30 or 0W-30 also can be used for emergency cases. These are also thinner oil, almost similar to 0w20. Sep 27, 2022 路 If your manual indicates 0W-20 or 0W-30, it should also say LL17FE+ and LL01FE. It is very important to use oils that have BMW approval. LL01FE oils are usually 0W-30 and LL17FE+ oils are usually 0W-20. I would use LL01FE if it was my car, but either is fine. Mobil 1 0W-30 does not have BMW approval.
Jan 31, 2018 路 BMW wants me to use 0W20 or 0W30 as per the manual. They then list other options that are ok up to 1 liter each. I live in Az. and my location can get fairly cold in winter and into the low 100's in summer . I've seen single digits a few times but the norm is 15 to 30 at night. The X1 is kept in my garage that never gets below 40 degrees.
